A halo engagement ring frames the centre stone with a circle (or in some cases, two circles) of smaller pavé diamonds. The visual effect is significant — the ring reads 25–35% larger than the centre stone alone, and the whole face of the ring fires light from every angle.
Two practical reasons. First, a halo lets you allocate budget to cut and clarity rather than purely to carat weight — a beautifully-cut 0.70ct centre in a halo can read on the finger as a more expensive 1.10ct solitaire. Second, the pavé halo protects the centre stone's girdle from knocks, so halos tend to be more durable for active wearers.
Classic round halo, oval halo (uses the elongating effect of an oval centre stone), halo with diamond-set shoulders (sparkle along the band too), double halo (two concentric circles of pavé for maximum presence). Each style works in 9K, 18K white, yellow or rose gold, and platinum.
We claw-set every pavé diamond in the halo individually rather than channel-setting them, which takes longer but keeps each tiny stone sparkling for decades. It's also dramatically easier to replace a single pavé stone if one is ever damaged.
