A side-stone (or "shoulder-set") engagement ring keeps a single dominant centre stone but adds smaller diamonds along the shoulders of the band. It's the natural upgrade from a plain solitaire for someone who wants more sparkle in motion without going to the size and presence of a halo.
The shoulder diamonds catch light every time you move your hand — typing, gesturing, reaching for something — so the ring fires far more often than a solitaire. They're also a more comfortable everyday choice than full pavé bands, where the small stones can wear down against work surfaces over time.
We bead-set or claw-set the shoulder diamonds individually (never channel-set) because individual claws keep the stones secure, easier to maintain, and easier to replace if ever damaged. The shoulder stones are graduated — slightly larger near the centre, tapering smaller toward the back — so the eye is drawn to the centre stone rather than competing with it.
Side-stone settings work beautifully with every centre shape. Round brilliants are the most popular; emerald cuts create a strikingly architectural silhouette; ovals look elongated and elegant; cushions add softness. Speak to us about which shape suits your finger shape and lifestyle.
